On the way George ran into the back of a cattle truck and was killed instantly. Two hundred and fifty-three friends and relatives attended George's funeral services. Tom Leach died a few days later.
George was known for making wonderful sauerkraut. He never married.

The caption on the front of the postcard reads, "Up to Date Farmer, Amber, NY." This photo was taken on the south end of Lake Otisco on the east shore (facing west), not far from the intersection of Oak Hill Road and Otisco Valley Road. During this period of time is was common for postcard companies to take photos such as this and then sell them to the subject of the card.
The card is addressed to Mr. John Bailer, and reads "Hello John, Thought I'd begin and correspond with you now. Hope you are feeling better nothoing like city life had an auto ride last night and a common occurence to have them with rubber tires. GLB"
